Welcome to the Skillbiz blogs.
My intention in providing these blogs is to provide insight into familiar challenges that companies face in leading their people. I want to inform these challenges with recent research and also with anecdotal feedback I receive through my consulting.
Over the 15 years consulting corporately throughout Asia, there are some question about leadership and influence that always generate discussion and attempts at resolution:
• To what extent can a leader be attributed the credit for a department’s success, and to what extent can they be blamed for their failures?
• When you delegate a job to someone, and they don’t do it, or they do it poorly, as the leader what do you do?
• When your boss delegates to you a business plan that you believe will fail, how do you say “no” to it?
• When your job is to support the business in a role like total quality, or HR, or IT, how do you give support cleanly? That is how do you avoid being accused of intrusion, how do you get recognition for any successes you obtain through others?
• How do you coach the person who doesn’t want to be coached?
• Employees don’t leave companies, they leave managers…
There are many more questions of course, but these will be the general focus of my early blogs as I draw together some ideas that I hope you will find interesting.
